Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Lava Cake. Does it get any better than the title of this recipe? I think not. Just finished my workout and needed some protein for recovery, so whipped up this bad boy. Mix and match fruits and nut butters. Use whatever suits your fancy. Bananas and almond butter would be amazing. Oh! Throw some chopped peanuts on top, too. Oh, yes, please.

Mix and match fruits and nut butters. Use whatever suits your fancy. Bananas and almond butter would be amazing. Oh! Throw some chopped peanuts on top, too. Oh, yes, please.
Total Time
5 min
Ingredients
- 1 scoop Vegan Chocolate Shakeology®*
- 1/4 t baking powder
- pinch of sea salt
- 1 T unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 egg white
- 2 t honey
- 5 T unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 2 t peanut butter
Instructions
- Spray mug with coconut oil.
- In a small bowl, combine Shakeology, baking powder, sea salt and cocoa powder.
- Add egg white, honey and almond milk. Stir until fully combined.
- Add half of the batter to the bottom of the prepared mug.
- Drop 1 teaspoon of peanut butter in center of batter. Add remaining batter to the mug.
- Microwave times will vary. Start with 1 minute, 30 seconds and add 10-second intervals until desired cake consistence is achieved. My microwave's sweet spot was 1 minute and 50 seconds.
- Remove from microwave and allow to cool in mug for 1 - 2 minutes.
- Remove from mug (or eat directly from it!) and drizzle with 1 teaspoon peanut butter.
- Put in your belly.
21 Day Fix
- 1 red
- 2 teaspoons
Great tip
- Top with sifted Vanilla Shakeology, fresh berries or toasted coconut. Serve with homemade frozen yogurt or banana ice cream.
- *Baking Shakeology can denature some of the nutritional properties. I personally believe a less-nutritional superfood cake is still a better option than a traditional molten lava cake averaging over 400 calories and 30 grams of sugar.

Made this tonight- not that moist but very good and filling! I had to keep telling my 3 year old that it was my dessert, not hers! Haha. Did you come up with this recipe or find it elsewhere? I’m asking because I’d like to put it on my blog in the future.
Jean says
Thanks, Kristen! I came up with it through about half a dozen not-so-yummy trial and errors, haha.
Lisa Horner says
I made this tonight. So delicious! Thank you!
Jean says
Welcome, Lisa!!
Kim says
Could 1 whole egg be used? I hate using just the whites because I don’t know what to do with the yolks :-/.
Jean says
I haven’t tried it with one whole egg, but give it a shot, Kim! I usually scramble and cook the yolk for one of the kids… or my dog, haha!
Ashlie says
Mine didn’t look quite as nice as your picture but it was a fun treat after dinner that I don’t feel guilty about!
Nadja Percoco says
Can I use regular shakeology or does it have to be the vegan?
Jean says
I bet regular will work just fine, Nadja. Vegan is just what I usually have on hand.
Jill says
This was DELICIOUS!
By FAR the best 21 DF dessert recipe I have tried!
I modified a bit:
-used whole egg
-added 1/2 ripe mashed banana for additional moisture and sweetness.

I heard they send you meal replacements after you order the kit. I don’t use meal replacements. Is this mandatory?
If the meal replacements are not something that is sent after you buy the kit, that’s fine. Let me know how the meal replacements work. I don’t wish to buy anything but the advertised kit.. Anything sent to me later I don’t want if I have to continiue to pay for meal replacements later.
Thanks,
Jean says
Hey, Moni! If your purchase the 21 Day Fix challenge pack, it comes with a 30-day supply of Shakeology (or 24 days, if you choose the box with individual packets rather than the bag). If you do not cancel it, yes, it will auto-ship again the next month. There is no obligation, though, so you can totally cancel it as soon as you want. You can even place the order and hop on the chat immediately after to cancel the auto-ship option. Just let them know you want the initial challenge pack, but you want to cancel the HD (home direct) option moving forward. They have an online chat and they don’t pressure or hassle at all. I always encourage the challenge pack because it’s the best value option. It also has reduced shipping that way. It’s just $2 shipping.
Does that make sense?

Don’t you have to count the egg white and almond milk as containers? I know they aren’t full ones but it seems like they should be counted somehow. And 2 tsp honey plus cocoa.. Where does that fall in?
I’m excited to try it! Just want to get my containers right!
Ann says
This looks tasty! If using the packets of Shakeology, would it be the entire packet? Thanks!
Jean says
Yes, 1 packet = 1 scoop.
Rikki says
Hi there– thanks for all the recipes, the ones i have tried are GREAT! Purchased your ebook too and it has been awesome–
Do you think this recipe would work with the vanilla shakeology? Its the only flavor i have and i wanted a special treat for my bday this week– any suggestions?
Jean says
Aw, you’re welcome!
Hmm, I’m not sure about vanilla. I could try for you tomorrow, though! Maybe I’ll add a couple tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder.
Rikki says
Awesome thanks! I am going to try it too– ill let you know! Thanks again!

I plan on doing this once I have my baby in a few weeks. I will be breastfeeding. How is the program be altered for breastfeeding moms?
Jean says
Hey, Jan! Aww, congrats! I’ve been breastfeeding the entire time on the program, too. It’s been so great for not only me, but stellar milk production for him, too. You’ll want to move up one entire bracket AND make sure you are drinking even more water than the program suggests. For most mommas, I recommend around 1 gallon of water per day. Hydration is so important for us and our supply as well.
Meg says
Clearly I did something wrong, cause this was like an under cooked chocolate soufflé…help?
Jean says
Hmm, I’m not sure, Meg. Microwave times can vary, so maybe yours needs a little longer? Mine puffs up SUPER tall, then falls. I make sure the top is no longer moist in the middle and it’s good to go.
Stefania says
I’ve made this a couple of times and found it delicious. I recently made it for my mom and sister and they loved it too. Do you know what the calories are for this recipe?
Thanks
Jean says
Hey, Stefania! Aww, yay! Glad everyone likes it. I don’t count calories, so I’m not sure. There are pretty cool (free) calculators out there, though. I found some with Google.
Kiesha says
O..M..G… I love this!!! I was thinking all was lost with chocolatey goodness desserts but this recipe proved me wrong! I took a reviewers advice and used a whole egg and added half a mashed banana and it was phenomenal! Thank you so much!
Jaime says
So just curious is you’ve tried it with the vanilla shakeology yet??
Jean says
I haven’t, Jaime! I’ve done vanilla with cinnamon and diced apples on the bottom, though. It wasn’t too shabby.
Stephanie says
Wicked! Thanks for this recipe!
Jean says
Welcome!!
Maria says
Thank you for this delicious recipe Jean! It is soooo good!
Maria says
It is sooo good!
Suzanne says
Thank you for this! I was searching the internet for a chocolate fix on my 21 day before I went full blown nuts on some chocolate chips! Mine turned out perfect and hit the spot!
Jean says
Ahh, yay!! So glad it helped!
Molly says
What containers does this recipe use?
Jean says
Hey, Molly! It’s 1 red, 2 teaspoons. I always try to put the containers at the bottom of each recipe, too.
Melissa Chrisp says
Hi Jean! Thanks so much for posting this recipe, I can’t wait to try!.. I just wondered, would cacao powder work in place of the Shakeology powder?
Many thanks!
Jean says
I haven’t tried it, but I have my doubts. I don’t think it has enough fluff to it (very technical term, ha!). Do you have any type of chocolate protein?
Elissa says
Can you use pb2 also is the cocoa unsweetened ?
Jean says
I have never tried PB2, but give it a shot! Yepper, the cocoa in the recipe is unsweetened.
